Since my last blog, most of my challenges have been personal (a trip to the hospital and a death in the family), but as they say, life goes on. Work-wise, over the past two weeks, David and I have redone the website for DERC, updating content and formatting as well as adding Spanish translations for the growing Latino community we serve. We presented to the board our initial assessments of board recruitment, as well as outlined our plan for future board member orientations, including sessions on fundraising, generative thinking, communication, and board recruitment. We met with one of our member organizations, and will be getting two prospective board candidates from that. We've also gotten to meet several of the alumni, and it has been very rewarding to see the impact DERC has had on their lives. DERC also got two new high school interns through the OEWD program, so shout out to the folks over there (Aubrey, Pum, Marissa, and Harsh) for setting that program up. It's cool to see how our different projects for DukeEngage in Durham are interconnected! It's also been good to see our new interns tasked with important work like reaching out to our member organizations for renewals and promoting our next event, a DERC Night at the Durham Bulls!
In the next few weeks, we hope to finish up two new videos- one as a thank you to our donors for the money given in the Forklift/ Steward Fund campaign, which sought to raise $25000, which would then be matched by the Stewards Fund. The other video is for fundraising, explaining what DERC does and the impact it's had. We've also done some story writing and are working on interviews of alumni testimonials.
